Promotion FAQs

How does promotion work?

Level 2 and up are only available to students via instructor promotion. If I haven’t talked to you about moving up to the next level and you’re interested, please email me, text me, or talk to me after class. 🥰

Remember that almost everyone takes any given level at least twice before they’re ready to move on to the next level. Our movements and concepts build on each other, and we want to make sure we have a strong foundation before we move on to more challenging levels.

The following level-1 movements are essential in level 2, because we introduce new combos and new movements that utilize them:

  1. Fast Vocabulary

    • Half-time shimmy

    • Full-time shimmy

    • Swivel step

    • Single bump

    • Rhythmic undulation

  2. Slow Vocabulary

    • Figure 8

    • Bodywave

    • Torso twist

    • Circle step

Likewise, the following movements are essential for level 3, for the same reasons:

  1. Fast Vocabulary

    • Full-time shimmy

    • Swivel step

    • RUSWAAT

    • FABSWAAT

    • Dragonfly

    • Double turn

  2. Slow Vocabulary

    • Barrel turn

    • Torso twist

    • Circle step

    • Balancing step

Ultimately, only you can decide whether you feel ready to move up. You don't have to be able to perform these movements perfectly to be successful in higher levels, but if you struggle with them, you may want to take your current level again before you accept your promotion invitation.

How does pricing change once I’ve been promoted?

When you sign up for a series, no matter the level, you pay $15/class. However, if you have been promoted and would like to continue to attend a lower-level class in addition to your new level, the cost for the lower-level series is $5/class. (For example, if you enroll in level 2, which is $150 [10 weeks at $15/class] and you want to also continue taking level 1, you would pay only $40 [8 weeks at $5/class] for the level 1 series instead of $120.)

Are there any other discounts available to me as a returning student?

Yes. When you signed up for a series the first time, if you attended the demo class and signed up for the series that same day, you got your $10 back as a thank-you. If you are a returning student, you may attend the demo class preceding the series you’re signed up for for free. Additionally, if you refer a new student to the demo class, you get $10 off your series registration (regardless of whether the new student signs up for a series).

Should I continue to take lower-level classes when I get promoted?

If you are able, yes, I always recommend this! Even professional dancers benefit from continuing to refine the basics!

What happens after level 3? Is there a level 4?

My long-term goal is to have a Crescent Dance Collective troupe, which would essentially be Level 4: Professional. Plans and details are in the works!
